Does anyone know what make care it was

If it was an older (50's) car, it was probably a Ford Skyliner. They were produced in 1957-1959. They had a lot of problems with the tops and were very suseptible to leaks, wind noise, and trouble in general. There was another car built in 1948 called a "Playboy" that also utilized a retractible hard top. It was manual top and though a pain to put uo and down, didn't give much trouble.

Most likely a Ford from 1957-1959. That is the only one I remember besides the Corvette but that was a lift off roof.

correct, the '55 to '57 Ford Fairlaine ( at least in Canada ) retractable, in the mid '70s they were cheap since the hydraulics were wearing out, but now ,wow .
