I've seen this problem time & time again. For some reason the sound card drivers get "glitched" for no apparent reason.

Just remove the drivers from the sound card in the Device Manager, then SHUTDOWN the computer, *NOT* Restart. Wait about 2-5 minutes then restart computer. It should find the sound card and Reinstall the drivers and have your sound back working again.

Check that the speakers are pluged in and the wire going from the speakers to your PC is in the right hole at the back of the pc.

If you have a speker symbul in the task bar at the bottom of you screen click on that and make sure that the mute box is not ticked and that all sound levels are turned on and turnes up.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
