Yes. It can take years to forgive, but it is always worth the effort.

It's such a general question I don't think there is an easy yes or no answer. In my mind one can be MORE forgiving to our loved ones, but to totally forgive for every transgression is not only probably impossible but unhealthy. Everyone has their limits, and though they can be sorely stretched for those we love, they are still ever present. Those boundaries are there for our health and well being, as well as that of the relationship we have with those loved ones. So, my advice is truly to take each situation and examine yourself and your boundaries with that person. Love is important, but most importantly is loving yourself.

In my personal quest for God the biggest barrier that I had to overcome was the need to give total forgiveness to another. Intellectually we know that we are supposed to act in imitation of the forgiveness shown to us by God, but for me this was nearly impossible. Ultimately, I understood that we must free ourselves from the burden of carrying around in our mind and soul the unforgiven and released sins committed by others. I hope you can as well. I do believe that the most Saintly act we can do is to take onto ourselves and then to release the sins committed by others particularly our loved ones. It frees you and frees them as well.

Forgive- yes, always, as you will torture yourself forever if you don't. But that does not mean you accept the same thing to be done to you ever again. So, you change, and if they don't, you distance yourself.

There are some things that are absolutely unforgivable. However, that hasn't ended my relationship with the individual. I chose to take the higher moral ground rather than walk away.

Yes, but we never forget and it causes us to become the person we would not have become had this event in our lives not have happened,

Unless you change yourself or lose your dignity, no.
It takes either art or repression.
