depends on what type of acid and what types of metal. Certain types of acids might night agree with the components in certain types of metals. Battery acid, for intance, corrodes (warp, melt, fubar if you will) metal upon contact. Other acids, such as hydrochloric acid, muriatic acid, etc, may or may not have that same reaction. Check out a chemistry book. Those help.

acid favours oxidation of metals more.. and in acidic nature the oxygen ions of atmosphere(o--) will react with metal ions on the surface of metal forming oxide layer..

the ions in acids
such as sulphate, chloride..etc
react with metal ( Zinc, Copper..etc)
and form compund like...ZnCl, CuSO4..etc
