I have just been to the shops and cannot believe the rubbish that is on sale.

With me I think it stems back from the days when mums went shopping at the last minute and christmas decorations were put up 12 days before christmas. Mind you all the cakes and puddings were made...and left to mature way before christmas. Only thing is I havent even made my pud yet.

How organised are all of you. Now your going to make me feel bad
about being disorganised.

I don't bother it and none of my family do anymore, which suits us all.

It is tiresome, I hate busy crowds of people and I just can't be bothered with buying stuff that is made in China by exploited peasants.

It was better in the old days, when we made our own decorations and there just wasn't so much stuff to buy, now it is just a greed fest.

Real Christmas

Be brave!
What is Christmas?
Dont create more waste and waste production!
Give to someone who really needs!

I don't go xmas shopping for exactly the reason you stated:

I too "cannot believe the rubbish that is on sale."

The whole concept of Christmas is about giving. There are a lot of stories about Santa's origins but the one I know is about the man called St Nicholas, who lived in Turkey. He was an orphan who became a preist. In Turkey (in some parts of the east even nowadays) people never used to have doors at the front of the house, but on the top (because of the 7ft snow)
Nicholas wanted to give money to families who were very poor and had to sell their children.
It might have been shameful to accept charity so he had to secretly throw bags of gold into people's houses during the night. Hence the chimney adaptation. I like this story he saved lot of children from miserable lives.

I think xmas shopping exaserbates a whole range of problems such as plastic production, greed, obesity, pressure to keep up with the neighbours, teenage angst, the generation gap, litter, debt to name a few.

I make a contribution to charity, send an email round telling people which charity I have given to. I do buy small gifts for kids in the family but i never go overboard, get into debt or exhaust myself in the proccess.

Best Christmas present would be one which will heal many hearts. And nothing matches a pet. Instead of presenting stuff which is going to end up in a closet, take an album of pets (from the RSPCA) and show it to families. Ask them to choose their pet as a Christmas present.
Don't bring in the pets as a surprise. Let them be prepared to receive it whole-heartedly.
Love has no boundaries.

I have bought absolutely nothing.

I think I'll just give the kids a cheque and forget it.
