Look at the requirements for the game. They should be on the box. It will tell you what speed of processor you need to run the game, how much RAM, free disk space, video memory, etc.

If your computer does not meet these minimum requirements, the game will not run on your computer. You can defrag, scandisk, anything you want to do - if your computer doesn't meet these requirements, you're wasting your time.

Good luck!

You can always buy more memory but many games these days are only for very fast newer computers. There is not much you can do about that with an older one.

Time for a PC upgrade.
bestbuy.com, emachine, $600, and then buy a good video card ($250) and bump up to 2GB of ram. My PC runs BF2 (very demanding) without any troubles at all.

Well I'd like to help you but I will need some more data:
- what is the game that you bought?
- what hardware you have (CPU, amount of RAM, Graphics card)

Without these, I can't help you much, so please ask again including data.
