Very slowly step down the number of times you nurse/pump in a day. Every 3-5 days, cut a nursing/pumping session and replace that with formula. If you still feel engorgement, that means you're weaning too quickly and should slow down some.

When you are weaning your baby, you will most likely have some pain and engorgement. If you are not breast feeding at all, then your milk supply will gradually decrease with the pumping as it is not as efficient at emptying the breast as your baby is. As the demand decreases then the supply will decrease as well. You can use some things to alleviate the pain and engorgement. Cool compresses on your breasts will help. You can use cool cloths or cabbage leaves on your breasts. Cabbage leaves sounds funny, but it does help. Buy a cabbage and put it in the frig to get cold. Peel off the leaves and put them in your bra. When the leaves get warm and wilt, replace them. When you feel some engorgement that needs relieving, try hand expressing the milk out until the pressure is relieved. For hand expressing, cup your hands around your breasts at the top, near your body and gently massage around the entire breast. Catch the expressed milk in a towel or do it in the shower. This helps to prevent clogging of any of the milk ducts which can lead to mastitis which is a painful breast infection.

Replace a nursing feed with a formula feed, every 3-5 days to give your breasts a chance to adjust. And don't pump unless you really have to to relieve some of the pressure, you might have to suffer a bit of uncomfortableness, but it won't be so bad.
Try not giving breastmilk with the formula and see if the baby will take it without, then it will be much easier to adjust your supply.

the more you pump the more your body will make....do the opposite and the milk will slow down and so will the engorgement and pain, try very hard to NOT take hot showers, they warm water will relax the muscles around the breast making the milk leak...this worked for me.....hope it helps you feel better

Hot showers and hot compresses on breasts help with engorgement. Also do not pump as often as the breasts will replenish again. You are blessed to have milk as some women do not. formula is easier but boob juice is the best.
