Donnie Darko is AWESOME!
(First, dont you hate it when people dont answer the question and make fun of the asker? JUST ANSWER THE QUESTION!)
There is an actual meaning or what the movie was supose to be about out there. We researched it, but I think its more fun when everyone can come to their own conclusion. We discussed it after we watched it and it was alot of fun listening to everyones own meaning.
I guess I didnt really answer the question either, how stupid of me, but what I'm saying is, Donnie Darko is to complex, but even more to beautiful to pinpoint

I had to watch that movie atleast four times, I appreciated it every single time but was confused as hell. I think that the basic theme and purpose of the film was that the crossing of paths and interactions all relate, things so little and irrelevelent all have greater cause. It has a lot to do with wishful thinking, and sacrifice. I mean him going back and saving her life is the pinnacle of the whole film, it shows complete selflessness and sacrifice..
It also has one of the best songs ever** mad world.

Sort of a "Its a wonderful life" mixed with "Sliding Doors" . Its been done before, but not from this point of view and I loved it a lot. Its about consequence and love and sacrifice. The consequences of Donnie's actions are far reaching and he sacrificed himself when given the choice for the love of his girlfriend and family.

Donnie Darko is a dark but good movie. It shows a kid going thru emotional turmoil. And he sees this dark personna who guides him in away thru riftsin time. It is a movie all about IRONY.

Like any film it is open to interpretation but I think it is about mortality and morality, and the way we choose to live our lives. Those that preach are often those that are the most corrupt and the choices we make every day have huge implications for everyone's existence....

I think it shows the consequences if you could see the day you day you died and took steps to avoid it. Sort of explaining that there's reasoning behind fate, and consequences for avoiding it, was a good film.

Why do you need to find a meaning. If it's your 'fave film ever' without knowing the meaning, why not just let it lie?

Very simple actually:
Listen Closely:
"...For some people you care about and love- giving your life is sometimes the least you can do".
