I know if it is hard to wait, but unless you are having any pain you might have to wait. If your insurance doesn't cover it then you will have to pay for it out of pocket and they are very expensive. Trust your doctor, I know that with the first it is frustrating not to know what's going on but that's why they do blood test to see if anything is wrong until they can see the baby at 20 wks clearly on the ultrasound.

Unless they have reason to suspect the baby isn't okay, they usually will not do one. Some doctor's now do an early ultrasound to better predict the due date because so many women are irregular. There is nothing on it though! All they look at is a bloob (which you won't understand anyways) and a heart beat (which your doctor will look for with a doppler at every visit anyways). I have had early ultrasounds with both pregnancies because I am so irregular, it's nearly impossible to date me based on LMP. If you request one, MOST insurances will not cover it (they cost about $400-$500 for a simple pelvic at a smaller
hospital). We looked into it because at 21 weeks our daughter would not cooperate to show us she was a girl! It wasn't a cost we were willing to pay. What would going to the ER do? I have gone twice with my last pregnancy and once was even for spotting and they didn't do an ultrasound. If the doctor says your baby is okay, then it is! Plus, if you are going to miscarry (God forbid!) you will, there isn't a single thing they can do at this stage. Check with your insurance and then see what you want to do, if the cost is worth it to you.

P.S.
You're insurance will know if you request it, because the doctor puts in the paper work. My doctor told us when we asked about another that we would have to schedule it ourselves....so with no doctor ordering it, obviously the insurance knows it wasn't odered. I work for an insurance company, so I know what papers are needed. People shouldn't talk if they don't know what they are talking about!

I have an u/s at every visit. I had my very first one @ 7 weeks to date the pregnancy, and give me the best accurate due date. If they wait until after ur 1st trimester the dating scale becomes off by 1-2 weeks, Because all babies grow the same in early pregnancy. You should ask for one, but you can also tell that that you are totally unaware of how far along you could be, then they might open they're eyes a bit and give you an u/s. Also if you just can't wait try to call some local abortion clinics they do u/s, they may charge you somewhere along the lines of $50-60. It's up to you.

I love my doctor, the first time I went to her and did the pregnancy test it came out positive, which could have been about 4 weeks or so she then did a ultrasound which I was surprised but it was done.
Also my insurance covers it so I guess thats why lol.
I had to be monitored every 2 weeks to make sure everything was ok so I now have had a total of 4 u/s and I'm only 2 months and a half. I don't have to see her till the end of the month but now I'm like whatttt I got used to her saying the baby is ok lol.

It will definetly cost u some money, if u schedule it on your own, and u have to find someone willing to do it who has time!! if u know anyone that works as a nurse at a hospital, maybe they could sneak u in!! Im pretty sure the ER visit will be a hefty fee too but maybe if u explain to ur doctor u just want to make sure the baby is fine they can ease your mind or schedu;le u one! Lots of things arnet very visible til the 20th week anyway, so it would be hard for them to tell u if anything didnt look right cause in a week it could look different!!Plus then they could get a more accurate reading!!
Hope i could help!!
Good luck with ur lil one!!

The only way they will do one before the 20 weeks is if you've had a previous problem pregnancy, and if there are concerns then you can request one. Most insurance company's only allow one maybe two. If you're wanting one then more then likely you'd have to pay for it.

If you don't have any reasons to be high risk, be thankful. Dr. will usually do a sonogram to check things out if he has suspicions. I had to wait with my first child and believe me it was worth it. Also, depending on how far along you are, you will get to hear the heartbeat soon. Insurance won't pay unless the doctor requests and if you wanted one they cost anywhere between 250.00 and 600.00 depending on your location. And believe me, I have miscarried in the past and they wouldn't even do one then to check things out. Just be thankful that you really don't have any health problems that would require one.

Generally, unless problems are arising, they only 2 u/s... One around 20 wks to determine sex and one closer to delivery for baby positioning and so forth... From insurance standpoint, you can request one, but most likely you will have to self pay out of pocket. Insurance most always only covers 2, unless they are medically necessary...

Really pretty early and not much to see.

Your insurance will most likely not cover it and they run several thousand. We had to get one weekly from the 20 week point and even at 20% they ran us a bundle!

I dont think it would hurt to request one, let them know that you want to see if your baby is ok and everything. I know I cant wait for my first exam because they are doing a u/s ...I wouldnt see why your insurance wouldnt cover it? How would they know that you requested one done? Just talk to your doctor let them know that it would really ease your mind to have one done and to see that your baby is safe and sound.
