It hasn't happened to me, however, I think it sounds a bit dismissive and condescending.

If we're talking an answer to questions on Yahoo Answers I don't care if people say 'whatever' to me.
However if I've asked someone a question and they've answered 'whatever' it makes me feel as if they don't think I'm worth the time and energy to come up with an actual answer. My husband has heard this lecture more than once, trust me. lol

I'm cool with it in most areas of my life; but if someone at my workplace says that to me when I'm offering guidance, it makes me want to sit them down and give them a talk on professional behavior and the importance of respect in all interactions. Instead, I just think, whatever.

I think it's funny. It amazes me how overused it is. It just means that the user can't think of anything good to say. People's vocabularies are deteriorating at an alarming rate. It saddens me and yet it greatly amuses me at the same time.

That that person who said "whatever" has nothing intelligent or relevant to add to the conversation, and has failed to convince me of his or her point of view.

Why react? I just figure the person wanted two points.

I take that as them saying that it was a stupid question. Or that it made them mad, or that it wasn't worthy of an answer
