Personally and professionally, there is no one program as an end all solution. Ad-Aware finds stuff that Spyware Doctor doesn't and Spyware Doctor finds stuff that Ad-Aware doesn't. What I do is use one program as a resident protection tool and use several others combined as scan and removal tools in safe mode.

You can't really take advice from people who only use one. Hypothetical situation. A person uses Lavasoft and it finds 13 threats and removes all of them. You would think that's it. If you scan again it would say none found and you'd feel your PC is spyware free. But if you scan it with Spy Doc it would fine like 12 more and remove them, then scan with trojan hunter it would find even more. That's the point no one program is good enough.

Hi there,

Looking at current protection scores PCTools comes out miles ahead of Lavasoft. However, both these programs are dwarfed by another program called Prevx1.

They currently have a free trial which you can download and try out for as long as you like.

What 750_Rider said is true. There is no one perfect anti spyware. Everything is relative. From my experience The Norton Anti Spyware Scan on the Yahoo Toolbar consider the adtmt cookie as low risk, AVG Anti spyware consider it a tracking cookie medium risk and Windows Defender does not even detect it. I have all three anti spyware programs.
