Would a presidential self-pardon be upheld?

The president is, after all, a US citizen. And, last I checked, presidents are allowed to pardon citizens for even the most absurd reasons (in fact, I'm not even sure a reason is even necessary).

Hey Tank--

Nixon was pardoned by Ford and was never convicted. And I believe Oliver North was pardoned without a conviction as well.

**EVERYONE**

Please don't just answer "yes" or "no". If you feel one way or the other, may we have the reasoning behind it?

ALSO...

For those of you inclined to answer "no," how could a presidential self-pardon be appealed? Who has standing to appeal it? Who has the authority to overturn it? With whom would the appeal be filed?

I don't know the answer, but wouldn't Clinton have gotten out of that impeachment better than he did, if he could have?

While it's true that a President need list no reason for a pardon (neither do Governors for state criminals), it does require that the pardonee actually BE a convicted criminal.

Since felon's can't run for president, and you can't "pre"-pardon (before a person is convicted), this would make a President pardoning himself difficult.

they can issue pardons for anyone other then themselves under the constitution. Pardons can also be issued as in the case of oliver North, for any crimes that may have occurred in the past. no conviction is required at all, not is any reason required.

They have to make it look good to all the peon's.
President,Congress,Senate,Judge's and Cop's all have what referred to as Judicial Immunity. They are all above the law and Not held accountable for their action like all us peons are.
Until those laws are abolished, the scum raises to the top of the pond.

No they can't. However, they can try to get laws enacted that would decriminalize whatever conduct they are planning that would be illegal.
