We used to hear Merry Christmas every where and now if you say it to answer the phone at work, you offend someone or waiting on a customer. Most of the time now you have to say Happy Holidays, it just doesn't have the same meaning. I love this time of year and want to say to everyone Merry Christmas. And they should be able to say what ever they saying are for the holidays. But don't be offend if i say to you Merry Christmas. I mean this is Jesus birthday, so maybe we should have been brought up to say Happy Birthday, Jesus.

We are no longer a country populated mostly by folks with European-Christian traditions.
If you still want to hear "Merry Christmas" you must go to Europe.
We are a diverse society-- if we don't appease everybody, some people might not pay their income taxes. Or They'll go on strike! Or demonstrate--riot!!
The only holidays Americans can celebrate as a united nation are Groundhog's Day, Valentine's Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Memorial Day, New Year's, Halloween & Thanksgiving. And Halloween is really based in paganism and druidism, right? But that's okay with everybody, probably cause they see it as just another excuse to get drunk and stupid.
Some people will always have strokes over the religious holidays of others.
History points out to us the fact that Christmas is a holiday which was superimposed on the prevailing pagan equinox celebration, and scholars believe that Jesus was born in March.
Humanity in general deserves a winter holiday-- it's dark, cold and depressing without some silly glimmer of hope that the fairy tale concept of "Peace on Earth" can exist for even one day.

Just because one works retail does it mean that they believe " THE REASON FOR THE SEASON" . Not everyone believes Jesus is God! He was a MAN! We owe him our love and respect for what he tried to do, he was a Master that people did not fully understand and crucified him. So for me there is nothing to be Merry about. It should be like this all year why cant people get along like this all the time? Peace and love be with you.
P.S. today Dec 4th is his b-day not the 25th. They celebrate the 25th because that is considered a King's b-day.

Because we've become so politically correct that mentioning Jesus' name on the celebration of his birth would somehow offend non-Christians. Nevermind that the entire store is decked out in Christmas decorations. Nevermind the Christmas carols on the store PA.

I blame lawyers.

This is just another example of the world becoming too freaking sensitive. God forbid someone mention "God" or make reference to Jesus' birthday. It's really sad...people need to thicken up their skin a little bit. I agree that it's ridiculous...say what you want. If someone said "happy ramadan" (sorry if mispelled) to me, I wouldn't get offended, I'd just know that they are celebrating their holiday. People are getting out of hand with political correctness...

It is not politically correct anymore. Saying Happy Holidays is a "general" term and does not offend others who believe differently than the Christians.

It is silly, I agree with you.
