Hello,
I'm with you on this one!, I've never understood the so called earth shattering appeal of Elvis Presley. As for the king!! you got to be kidding me. You cannot be serious!!
He's just some guy who sang a few not very good pop songs and is totaly over rated and died from self inflicted excess i.e. did too many drugs and ate too much. (perhaps thats why Americans loved him because he was excessive and totally OTT?).

You got us with this question. No one can truthfully answer why anyone gets away with calling Elvis the king. He is about as disgusting an example of rock and roll as is available. A no talent hack with a penchant for drugs which makes him a despicable example of non-humanity. Someone started this and it continues possibly as a joke. That is the best we can hope for as even the other guys around him at the time were much much much much better . Cash and Lewis come to mind as well as Berry and Richard. Lil Richard was the father of rock and roll and deserves to be king. Elvis and the Elvii are pretty shi--y

During the inception of rock n roll, Elvis was sleek and cool and sold more records than anyone else.
Your description is of the older Elvis , years later . . .

The epithet is just part of the myth-making machine of American popular culture. Perhaps it is because there are no royalty in the United States that its popular culture generates its own kings and queens. It has indeed been said that celebrities are the royalty of the 20th and 21st centuries. I am uncertain as to the origin of the title but it has been said that Elvis himself was unconfortable with being called king as he felt that there is only one king – Jesus Christ.

he started a revolution in the music industry, without him there may never have been such a thing as rock n roll. he made some bad choices at the end of his life, but that doesn't change the huge impact he's made on the face of music. show a little respect, man.

Because Elvis was the first real rock n roll star, the first internationally known superstar and the person who changed the world of music with his records.
Surely he deserves to be referred to as the king?

When Elvis first broke, rock was new and exciting, and very segregated. White kids didn't usually go see black artists, and black kids didn't go see white artists. Elvis changed that. Here was a white man who dressed black, sang black, and had raw sexual energy. He was controversial, but he talent to back it up.
