I just bought a house and my kitchen countertops are gross. I guess they are vinyl or laminate or whatever, you know...regular countertop stuff.

My problem is two fold:

1- Housewarming party resulted in drunken fools making Margareita's and spilling that pink goo stuff everywhere...

2- Rings when I moved in that look almost like the counters were a bit wet and someone left a can or something on it?? Like a tarnish, not a direct stain.

Any suggestions?

Straight bleach will do the trick, tho it will eat your sponge. My husband and I were cleaning at his grandma's house and that's what we used to clean her rarely-washed off-white countertops. Took out so many stains that you could actually see exactly where we had poured the bleach. We did the whole thing and it looked practically new again.

you can try wetting paper towels with a bleach solution (not too strong - I think a 1 part bleach, 4-6 part water would work) and leaving out flat on the counters overnight. Try a small section to make sure you don't do more damage.

Try a powdered bleach-based cleaner like or Ajax. Try it on a small corner that is hidden first, because it might actually damage it. If the patch test doesn't damage the surface, try it on your stains.

Also, you could try OxyClean or CLR, they're different in chemical composition, so make sure you do the patch test again.

Just apply the cleaner and a little water and scrub with a scotch-brite pad.

You may want to try bleach with an aggressive sponge, I used to do caretaking work in an apartment complex and we used this method on stained counter tops.
