Yesterday I had a terrible pain from my shoulder to my fingertips, tylenol didnt help at all, i finally used a heating pad which made it tolerable. I didnt know what it was or what was causing it. My mom said it could have been a pinched nerve which is common because im pregnant (20 weeks) Im sure that is what is was because that is exactly what it felt like. This morning it is better. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what I can do to prevent it from happening again or if it does what can I do for the pain next time.

It can come and go, and be really bad too. There isn't much to do to prevent it, the baby moves and pinches nerves. The heating pad is what my OB recommended to help.

Also incase it happens that your siatic nerve (runs down your leg) gets pinched, get on all fours on your bed (it's easier to get off of then the floor) for a few mins, it helps pull the baby off your spine.

I have never heard of your upper body have nerves pinched from pregnancy. My doctor told me any pain or tingling in my arms to contact her right away b/c it can be a sign of high blood pressure or preeclampsia. BUT if you are sure it was a nerve, okay! There isn't anything you can really do for it. When it's in your back and legs (which is normally where the nerve pain is during pregnancy) they tell you to lay on the opposite side of the pain and stay hydrated. When it's on your back you should only use a heating pad for 10 minutes at a time, followed by a ten minute break, then 10 minutes of ice and so on between ice and heat. A heating pad for a long period of time can raise your body temp which is bad for baby. Good Luck

Start seeing a massage therapist on a regular basis. I did with each pregnancy and it really helps to keep your body in balance and prevent the aches and pains. Also, if your body is in balance, labor will be easier.
