I am tired of people playing the victim card. I wouldn't want to be in their shoes but for crying out loud....a big hurricane is coming at you, why don't you move?

NEW ORLEANS IS A WAR ZONE THEY HAVE THE SAME MURDER RATE THIS YEAR AS LAST YEAR. ONLY THING IS THAT THEY HAVE HALF THE PEOPLE.
HAVE YOU NOTICED THAT NO ONE WANTS TO COME BACK. THEY HAVE FOUND BETTER LIVES IN OTHER PARTS OF THE COUNTRY. NEW ORLEANS WAS A CRIME ZONE THE DRUGS ARE RAMPANT. THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED TO NEW ORLEANS WAS THE HURRICANE. THE ONES THAT DID NOT LEAVE WERE WARNED NOT TO EXPECT HELP. HOW MUCH MORE DO YOU NEED TO BE TOLD.
IF ANOTHER HURRICANE TAKES THE SAME PATH, WE WILL HAVE THE SAME RESULTS. NEW ORLEANS SITS BELOW SEA LEVEL AND PERSONALLY THEY SHOULD GIVE THE LAND BACK TO NATURE. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU TRY TO FILL WHAT SHOULD NATURALLY BE MARSH LAND. I DON'T WANT MY TAX DOLLAR GOING TO CONSTANTLY REBUILD A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN AGAIN HOW MANY TIMES WILL THEY REBUILD IT BEFORE THE LAKE AND OCEAN TAKE THEIR NATURAL COURSE. WHY DIDN'T THE STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT BUILD PROPER LEVY'S IN ALL THE HISTORY OF NEW ORLEANS ? THE STORY IS GETTING OLD. WE HAVE OTHER PROBLEMS NOW AND THE LOCAL GOVT. HAS DONE NOTHING WHY IS IT THAT ANYONE WOULD EXPECT SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT. PLENTY OF MONEY WAS PAID OUT TO THE VICTIMS OF THE KATRINA. NEW ORLEAN VICTIMS GOT PAID. BILLIONS HAVE BEEN SHELLED OUT TO MAKE SURE THEY GET RELOCATED AND START A BETTER LIFE AWAY FROM THE CRIME ZONE THAT IS NEW ORLEANS.

You know I feel bad about what happened to the people in LA but I think people looked at it wrong... first Hurricane Katrina was projected to hit LA dead on.. people didn't evacuate... it didn't.. it hit more toward Mississippi and that area.. they got hit hard.. everyone went to their rescue because they actually got hit by the hurricane.. no one knew the levies were going to break... one of the reasons it took so long was because they had to get from the other devastation to where the low laying area of New Orleans was... People forgot that others lost their homes and people were missing in other states... How many people heard about the other states that got effected by the Hurricane...Now.. the government did give them and the state money but it is up to the state to determine how to use that money... as far as their homes.. that is what insurance is for.. most were not insured... not the Governments fault.. now yes I think the President should have sent the National Guard out there sooner.. but as far as FEMA and all them... they were in the other states.. I think they made to much out of that issue.. making it a race issue.. the people made mistakes too.. by not evacuating when they were told too, and by not being insured... everything that happens to people is not the Governments fault.. there is personal responsibility

Stephanie I think this is the first time I've agreed with you on something. I live in Houston and I can tell you that many of the "victims" were very rude and felt that Houston owed them something. I stopped to get donuts and coffee before work one morning about 6 months ago. A man came up to me and explained his situation about FEMA "cutting him off" and he's got a family to feed. I bought him a dozen donuts and his exact words were,"I said I got a family to feed. How the f**k am I gonna do that with a few donuts. See it's sh*t like that that makes me hate Houston. You motherf**kers ain't given us sh*t."
That's what made me stop feeling sorry for these "victims".

There were screwups in response. Let's face it. But the first screwup ought to be laid at the feet of their fine Mayor, Nagin. He made sure his sorry butt was covered before even beginning to entertain the possible thought that his citizens, the people who elected him might need assistance. As he sat in his top floor Executive Suite hotel room relaxing and enjoying fine food and drink, his people had already begun to panic. The fact is this. Everyone screwed the pooch from the top down. And the abuse is still continuing today. People are still receiving assistance long after it should have stopped. Yes, your/our federal government is supposed to be there for us when they are needed, but some personal responsibility is in order as well.
I would NEVER live in a city that is so far below sea level...especially given the history of New Orleans and hurricanes. Nor would I live in LA with it's earthquakes. Wait till the next huge quake and watch the carnage.

New Orleans could have been cleaned up by now if these 'victims' would get off of our welfare systems up here and go home and clean their mess up!!!! Those cleaning up get housing while there and paid to do it so round these victims up and get them busy!!!! It is a national disgrace and not up to the federal gov. to deal with it but the local! And to think they reelected those fools! I have no sympathy for them as Miss. Ala. and even Ga. managed and some of them were worse! Now some crack judge is offering them more money!!

There are always people that play the "victim card" for as long as they can, it doesn't matter what the tragedy or issue is. Just look at people that think others "owe" them for historical wrongs, despite numerous attempts to rectify the issue years ago. Look at people that blame poor education or pseudo-medical conditions for why they commit crimes. It is a wide-spread social issue where people that are victims of one issue believe that society must absolve or repay them for everything that has happened in their life.

FEMA tried to cut them off and some leftist judge made them keep paying. Face it, the ones that are crying for help were the lazy criminal loafers before Katrina and haven't changed a bit.

I answered a question about this honestly last time, and got many thumbs down. Let me try again...we can cut them off of FEMA aid, but that won't stop them from getting SOME OTHER aid. So which social program do we want to cover them under? I think that we should give aid to those who move back to New Orleans and who rebuild their homes and neighborhoods. Help those who help themselves.
