I have worked with several children that were born with gastroschisis and the ones that appeared to fair better in the hospital were delivered via C-section. One little boy suffered complications when his organs were pulled while exiting the birth canal. However, it does depend mainly on the severity of the condition. I hope everything works out for you, your child, and your family.

Babies born with gastroschisis are generally otherwise healthy. A small percentage of babies with the condition also have blockages called “atresias” of the bowel — a problem that can occur without gastroschisis and which requires surgery to correct.

Pregnancies with gastroschisis often go into labor early, and they are allowed to deliver vaginally unless there is another obstetrical reason to have a C-section.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I am sure everything will be fine. I have saw this on TLC and shows like that but I've never known what it was called. I found this on emedicine.com...
"Cesarean delivery is performed in many mothers of fetuses with gastroschisis, although this does not convey any advantage over vaginal delivery."
I would definitely talk it over with your doctor to see what his/her thoughts are on this. I hope the best for you and your baby. Good Luck with everything!

I'm pretty sure the way of birth is not an option here. For your safety and your baby's they'll do a c-section. But most babies do well after the surgery to correct this problem...so your little one will be fine. Good luck honey

You really need to talk to your prenatal caregiver about this. I'm not sure, but I imagine that this could be an indication for a c/s.
