Rose DeWitt Bukater, the characater whose young version Kate Winslet plays in the film, is purely fictional.
However, if you're asking about the actress who played the older version of RDB, her name is Gloria Stuart. According to IMDb.com, she's still alive (they're pretty good about updating things, so she's still alive as of a couple of days ago, anyway) and pretty d***ed old.

From what I understand, the story itself was a fictional one. There was however a woman who was interviewed during the making of the Titanic movie who gave the producers first hand information because she was there. As for her meeting Jack, that was all untrue. I believe the woman passed away shortly after the films release. The characters portrayed in the movie were based on actual people, but the love story was fictional as far as I recall.

The character of Rose was not a real person, she was created for the movie. The actress who played the older Rose, Gloria Stuart is still alive and is 96 years old.

There really wasn't a Rose in real life, she was a fictional character.
but her character was based on Beatrice Wood.
But the woman who PLAYED the old Rose is still alive

She was alive, yes, but I think within the last few years, she died. So sad! (but she was real old!)
