It is the unstable surface of a cloth which breaks away from the main fibres. Lint free does not suffer in this way.

Lint is minute pieces of fiber that brakes off the cloth as you use it. You are most likely using a sythetic type off cloth.

tiny bits of fluff if you use something that isnt lint free you get bits of fluff all over your car
