We got the bee out by leaving the machine outside. But now the reservoir is grungy, and I'm tempted to chuck the whole thing. Is there a way to safely & effectively clean/disenfect this?

Run it through a brew cycle with half bleach, half water. Then 2 cycles with straight vinegar. Then a couple of cycles of plain water until the vinegar smell is gone. Or just buy a new one.

run vinigar through it once then water a few times. Also clean the pots outside with vinigar or bleach. Works every time.
