Hi there, I'd like to ask about how much the trip to the vet costs for a hamster.

Here's the thing I'm worried that my dwarf hammy has an abcess. He is still able to get around and stuff.

Since I found the round bump on his tummy, he squirms a lot (still doesn't bite tho, he's such a good hammy).

I don't think it's cancer because it's not growing, but I also am not sure if it's an infection because he won't let me hold him long enough to see if it's leaking pus or anything. Please help!

Try calling around. Most vets don't take hamsters...at least where I live. My son's hamster decided to escape her cage and get into the basement of a vacation home we were at. She ate some d-con. I called so many vets and they all said they didn't take hamsters as patients...mostly because they are cheap replaceable pets and they dont' want to get bitten. The d-con people said that she would need vitamin K and finally one vet said they would call in an order to the pharmacy for me. I gave the hamster the pill and you know what???? She lived for a year more.

I hope you can find out what to do for him.

If you can find a vet to take him, it will be the same cost as a dog or cat...around $20-$40 in my area.

Good luck with your little guy.

Talk to someone at a good pet store, preferably one that specializes in hampsters -- your best option is to find a product to let you treat it yourself -- I don't think any good vet would take your money for a hamster visit
