Any advice on how to keep my Prenatal Vitamin down? Sometime I'll get lucky and it will stay down, but sometimes it won't. What am I doing wrong??

I try to take the pill right before I go to sleep..

you may try taking it with some food - like dinner. I always take mine right before bed too. But if it makes you sick, you may want to take something that isn't so strong. If it's something your Dr. prescribed, ask if there's something else that is milder. Or try an over the counter prenatal vitamin.

I've also heard that taking a daily vitamin, even flintstones vitamins for kids is enough! Most people these days are over-nourished, not under nourished... I woudn't worry too much about the vitamins if you're eating well.

hope this helps!

A lot of the previous suggestions are really good ones. I've never actually taken an actual prenatal vitamin. When I found out I was pregnant, I began taking Centrum Complete (it'd the recommended 400MCG of Folic Acid so I was happy.) They were fruity and chaulky and no matter when I tried to take them, they always made me stomach sick. The smell and thought of them alone now, still can make me sick. I struggled with taking them until I was 12 weeks along and able to see a doctor (I'd been in another country without insurance cause I'm smart and couldn't see anyone until returning home) and I was told, if my bloodwork showed that I was not lacking anything, then I could just take a Folic Acid supplement. So since about 12 weeks I've been taking 1mg of Folic Acid. I make sure that what I'm eating contains enough of the other vitamins (iron, calcium, etc.) I'm 24 weeks and 3 days and my little girl has a "beautiful brain and wonderful spine" with "a lovely heart and perfect kidneys and liver." I had to have done something right.

You can also get your Folic acid in a lot of foods you eat. So on days that you're REALLY REALLY REALLY struggling to get your pills down, you can at least supplement for that day with foods that are high in Folic Acid.

It's not what you're doing wrong. Keep at it. If it's really bad, switch your vitamins to another brand. If that does not work, be sure to speak to your doctor. Above all, make sure you're getting your folic acid. That is the MOST important one.

I discovered during my first pregnancy that a great deal of women react adversly to the coating on the vitamin and chuck it right back up. Try taking it with your breakfast (make sure you eat something like toast or crackers with it) or ask you OB for a non-coated or chewable vitamin. I used to get the chewable kind and blend it into a smoothie so I couldn't taste it and I got the benefit of the extra folic acid in the fruit.

I take mine first thing in the morning with just a sip of jucie. Then i wait about half an hour to eat anything. IF this does not work for you you can switch to a different prenatal brand. sometimes that helps good luck.

You may just want to take flinstone vitamins. The Ob's say thats fine, and has enough of what you need for a helthy you and a helthy baby. Talk with your OB, if you cant keep your vitamins down. She would rather have you do flinstones than puke up the stuff you need! Good luck and congrats!

Try the pill in the morning after a full meal. I have the same problem. It seems like the pill makes the nausea worse.......However we have to take it! Rock>hard place lol.If you take the pill and lay down afterwards, your symptoms are worsened because you are in a horizonal position, not allowing it to digest properly.Good luck and congrats!!!!!

Take after a meal or change your brand of prenatal.

I take Nature Made Multi Prenatals and they don't bother me at all, whether I take them with food or not.

Don't take it in the morning! Take it right before bed, or after dinner. Always on a full stomache. I take mine and then eat a few crackers or some bread afterwards too.

i took mine in the morning, but I had morning sickness for the first 4 months and I was vomiting all the time, so I had no luck keeping it done no matter what time of day I took it. I recommend taking it with food or milk, that helps.
