If you had a circle of friends who were fed up with the commercial side of Christmas (i.e. just buying and giving presents) and would love to have something (anything) that was made by you, what would you make them?

Paint a ceramic mug with their names and some design that might have a special meaning to them...you can buy paint at the craft store that will adhere to glazed ceramic and after baking in the oven at home it becomes hand-wash permanent. Or, you can find a Color-Me-Mine studio near you ( they are everywhere!) and make them a personalized snack set ( Mug and salad-size plate) and before wrapping, fill the plate with some cookies you bake yourself. Key chains made from shrink plastic, bookmarks, jewelry you can design yourself with one visit to a bead shop where usually classes are held. Paint a birdhouse or bird feeder in a way that says you. Print out personalized stationary from copyright free clip art on your home printer. Personalize some sturdy canvas tote bags using Crayola fabric crayons or transfers made from photos you scan into the computer and print out on photo transfer paper and give them a set of three that they can use as reusable grocery bags. Or make them a very personal,one-of-a-kind t-shirt with that photo transfer paper.

Last year, I spend months going out and buying and hand painting little ceramic houses for each person. I'm still not done because of the amount needed for all of my friends. But each one likes them...and I personalize each and every single one of them.

I've also done miniature settings. I've painted some and then created a scene around them...My best one was a scene that I called the Joust of Excalibar. That one went over really well.

I like to give people gifts of things that are little decadent things that I use all the time that they wouldn't buy themselves. Bathrobes are great. Really good quality sheets. A great shower product. comfy slippers. Something practical. My mum loves her coffees so for her birthday I rang the coffee shop she goes to and organised her next 20 coffees to be free. I paid by credit card over the phone. She loved it cause it saved her money and she felt really special when they new her b'day. I like a plastic tree. Call me crazy but the smell of plastic and tinsel smells like christmas to me!No theme, just as long as we decorate as a family!

Ah, I'm making my family paintings and pottery. Well, I've already done it, really. I'm an art student, and well, I don't have room at home for all my projects and I spent all my money on art supplies, so everyone's getting art for Christmas.
If I had the money for the metal, I'd probably make silver Christmas tree ornaments, or, if I had the time, I'd make enamelled ornaments.

I always love receiving frames pics of nights out or special times spent together. With digital photography so prevalent most people don't make prints anymore and its so nice to be able to touch the pictures

I would get some unfinished wood and decoupage something with our pictures on it. Or I might make them some Ornaments. Or possibly a memory box. I might break out my dremel & engrave glass or a mirror for them. I might bead some serving utensils for them. There's always making a picture frame, windchimes, candles... Good Luck!

In MHO, I think someone that detest the commercial world would appreciate a gift set for their favorite diy projects.
Things like crochet kits, bead kits, paint kits...etc

You could bake some cookies and put them in a tin that you decorated. They can enjoy the cookies now and keep the tin to store things.

I'd do some mini hampers with personal / personalised stuff in that they like.
