I posted about it in my blog today as it is this day in 1952(?) it started. I had never heard of such a thing happening and I see it happened again on a much smaller scale 10 years later. I was just curious if anyone was around who remembered it who can describe a little what it was like.
Thank you!

It was caused by a combination of smoke and fog. Most homes in London were heated by open coal fires which poured smoke out of the chimneys into the air. When the smoke mixed with a particularly dense fog, smog was formed. As is usual in conditions of fog, there was no wind to disperse the smog, which lay as a sulphurous cloud over the city. Many people died or were taken ill as a result of breathing the smog.
