Sri Lanka scored 952 for 6 against India, at Colombo, Sri Lanka, between August 4 and 6, 1997. The Sri Lankan players were showered with presents and hailed as heroes by their countrymen. The government even gave each one of them a plot of land in the outskirts of the capital. Sanath Jayasuriya and Roshan Mahanama, the two cricketers who contributed the most in setting the all-time record in Test cricket, were given $25,000 between them by the Sri Lanka cricket board.

400* - Brian Lara
West Indies v England, St John's, 2003-04

Ten years after his 375, Lara returned to Antigua. The circumstances were different: West Indies had been walloped 3-0, and Lara himself, by now 34 and captain, was under intense pressure to avert an unthinkable whitewash. And Lara, with barely a false stroke, became the first man to regain the top spot, hitting 43 fours and four sixes as he reclaimed the record - and West Indian pride - on his way to the first Test quadruple-century.

this might be a myth as i heard in a pub quiz but apparently there was an international between england and the windies in the 1890's or something and the english batter hit the ball and it got stuck in a tree which was in the ground so was not a boundary but they couldnt get the ball out the tree and eventually had to shoot it out with a gun, in the meantime the english batters had clocked up ovder 1500 runs before giving up with exhaustion. apparently.
