is it worth to get the DS or shuld i squeeze in a little more $$ to get the psp?

Which is more important to you? Video games or multimedia? If you want a machine that can play MP3's, view photos and movies, and surf the web, then the PSP is definitely your better option. However, if you're looking for a machine with a lot of games that are fun, the DS by far has the better video game library. But even then, you need to know what kind of games you like to play. If it's mainly sports, FPS, and realistic graphics games that you're looking for, the PSP again will be your system of choice. Now if realistic graphics is not a must, but instead, games that are fun, unique, and focuses more on innovative gameplay, then the DS blows the PSP out of the water. Answer the suggestions I gave you and you will choose the system that will most get the bang out of your buck.

Despite its movie and music playback capabilities, the PlayStation Portable has primarily gaming-oriented controls (as opposed to the controls typical to television remotes or MP3 players): two shoulder buttons, the PlayStation face buttons (triangle, circle, cross, square), start and select buttons, a digital 4-directional pad, and an analog stick. There is also a row of secondary controls along the underside of the screen, for controlling volume, music settings (either switching the audio off and on in games or selecting different equalizer presets), screen brightness, and accessing the system's main menu.
The PlayStation Portable's analog stick, often referred to as the analog "nub", is a circular disc which slides rather than tilts. The analog stick can also be easily removed and replaced with an alternative third party stick.

i would pick the psp because the quality of the pictures are great. and you can put songs, videos, and pictures from your computer.

I would def. go with the psp.Along with it being a gaming system, it's like having a handheld movie theater with the internet.
