Yes. My parents are that age and I see how slowly they move and my Dad can't hear and my Mom gets confused and she just had to have a knee replacement. I think all of that kind of stuff would be very scary. And it would also make a person feel resentful. Because no matter what you do, alot of it is going to happen whether you are ready or not.

I think I am more afraid of death rather than getting old.
As far as aging goes, if my health (mental and physical) are good, I think life can be quite wonderful as an old person.
I will be retired and instead of working at my boring job, I will do things that I want to do such as studying, volunteering, and traveling.
I have read that old people finally accept themselves and feel more free to be themselves without worrying all the time about what people and/or society thinks of them. I think this freedom would also be a wonderful to thing to experience.
To sum up, getting old is a stage of life and all stages have something that you can learn and grow from. It's just part of the journey of life.

I'm not looking forward to it at all. At 56 it's just around the corner for me and even though I am in relatively great shape I know that could end anytime soon. I watched my father suffer through his late 80's only to check out at 89. He was always a healthy and vibrant person. I can see my mother's health declining each year and at 84 she still is doing well except for the cane. Old age and death is inevitable and to me seems like a cruel part of life. Just when we get it all together and learn how to live better our health goes out the window and we suffer, some of us worse than others. If I'm lucky I'll just die in my sleep.

I don't know how old all of you are, but I am in my 50s. The older I get, the better I feel about myself but I must admit that the biggest fear is of not being able to care for myself as well as the possibility of not having the money to do so (or be able to afford a decent place).
But what is the alternative? I think the less time spent worrying, the better off I am: actually since there's nothing we can do to avoid it, unless we don't make it to old age, it makes sense to live for now and try not to obsess about the future.

I'm more afraid of staying young. Actually, I'm at the stage between young and old...of course, I'd like the clock to stop ticking or even go backwards 10 years. Life is waht we make it. Some people never have the luxury of getting old- They pass on too soon. My fear is being lonely and physically unfit - not so much so in aging.

Not really, I think when you get to your 80s and 90s you start to accept that you are nearer to death. The only thing that scares me is being vunerable to muggers and not being able to run from them! I will probably move to another country I wouldnt want to live here in old age anyway, mainly because of the cold weather.

I;m not really afraid of gelling old but I'm joust afraid that I'm not gonna be able to take care of myself when I'll be older. I wouldn't want to be chained to bed for the rest of my life or end up in some nursery home where people heve to help me with everyting. That's what I'm most afraid of.

It is a fact, everybody gets old. You can stay young much longer, by not smoking ,avoiding alcohol, eating right and watching your weight and exercise daily. You will look forty, when you are sixty. If you dwell on worrying about getting old, it is self defeat. Think young and you will always be young.

I wouldnt say I am scared more like dreading it...... I regulary take a bus load of old people out from a local home and watching them shuffle on and off the bus fills me with a sense of not wanting to grow old, they pee themselves and other things nasty and they dont even know half the time, my gran had alsimers and she went from an inteletual lady to a lady who didnt even know me and she lived with my parents and saw me everyday.

Yes....I honestly think about it at least once a day. Being old means doing nothing, and eating mush all day....and not looking sexy - not to say that looks are everything, but it does cross my mind.
