To convert pictures between formats (bmp to jpg for example) you need a graphic editor. Windows includes a very basic one called Paint. Go to Start > Accessories and you will see an icon for Paint.

Start the program. Open the bmp file you want to convert.
Under the File menu, click on "Save as...."
Under the place were you type the file name, you will see a file type box. Use it to select "jpeg"
Save the file and it will be converted from a bmp to a jpeg

You have to open the bitmap file to any image editing software like (MS Paint,Adobe Photoshop, imageready etc) and then save it as .jpeg. Any Image editing software has this conversion capability.
