Doesn't the 1st amendment protect vile speech, as long as it doesn't incite violence? As much as I dislike trolls, I think taking legal action is very costly. I have a web forum, and there are a few idiots who are saying crazy stuff on there. Some are thinking about filing a lawsuit, but I don't think it's necessary.

I don't have extra time on my hands. Well... actually I do. But... I don't want to file the lawsuit. I'm just asking if it could be done. Read the question.

Okay....let's get it straight, I'm not filing the lawsuit. Some people in my forum are thinking about filing one. For the record, I think it's a stupid idea, I just want to know if it could be done... out of curiosity, nothing else.

Legal action against trolls? That's kind of harsh and totally unneccessary if not kind of impossible and extremely costly. Plus, I don't think you have a case because of the first amendment and alot of other things. Just ignore them and they will leave on their own or better yet, get their IP address and contact the ISP (Internet service provider).

The first amendment protects limited free speach. It draws the line at yelling "fire" and things like that. As far as a lawsuit, sounds like it's just about money to me. A lawsuit will not solve anything. Besides for that, your not just dealing with the first amendment, at that point you would be dealing with laws that govern the internet also...and from what I understand they are few and far between.
