Very easy. Buy a caliper compressor, like $10 at pep boys.

Take off wheels, unbolt calipers, slide up. Do not remove brake lines. Slide out old pads. Use caliper compressor to compressor the piston in the caliper. Slide in new pads. Bolt caliper back onto rotor. Make sure you pump brakes a couple times to restore pressure.

Done.

Please go visit your local auto parts store and get the manual for your Elantra. The 2001 manual should be very close.

Also, your local library should have the general repair manual for all import vehicles for that year which shoudl give you an indication on how to get the job done.

For a first timer, bank on about 45 minutes to figure out the first side, and about 15 to do the other side.
