Tell him that you are impressed that he is able to make something as small as a bolt with his lack of opposable thumbs, and that you would like him to use his skills to make you a table. He should feel flattered! :-D

Everyone knows that hoses do NOT make very good carpenters, think yourself lucky that his engineering skills are so good - mine can only make some brown stuff that I put on my rhubarb and it tastes wicked!
