Like the first guy said....it depends on what you are doing.

I've tried many languages, and I suck at them all [cept visual basic], and I couldn't imagine writing a game or something bigger in assembler.

I think the biggest votes here are likely to got C+ and its variants.

Whilst C+ is not the highest level of languages (and highest usually means slower & larger in size - though eaiser to read / debug / write), it is not the lowest level either (usually most difficult to read / debug / understand / but very fast / small in size).

Many operations systems are written in C too. So its popular also.

Hope this helps.

For what? What are you trying to accomplish? If you mean the best language for a specific task then the answer depends on what you're trying to do. If that is the case maybe you could add more detail to your question.

Are you are asking from a career perspective? Are you wondering which language offers the most job opportunities and with a good salary? That is still abroad question but easier to answer. Right now, in the business world you'd do very well if you were a strong C# or Java developer. My preference is C#. I also believe there are more opportunites in C#.

Don't believe anyone who tells you the know "the best programming language." They either are completely un-informed or lying to you. Each language has strenghts/weakness. Each one was build for a different purpose.

Good luck to you!

There are many different languages out there, if you are looking to program web pages, then you are looking at javascript, php, and html. However if you are referring to high level stand alone programming, you would have C/C++, C#, Java, VB. All programming languages use the same logic, but have a different way of going about it. C/C++ is more advanced but is becoming less used. Java is good for designing applets for online use. Anymore though, C# and VB through the .net development are more widely used. C# is fairly simple and powerful, while VB is just as powerful it is not as structured and more forgiving. Go to programmersheaven.com for examples of each.

all programming language is best, programming like C, C++, Assembly are the bset Visual Basic , and Visual C++ are the Best too, but in there own application, for exmple you are making a program for database, Access and VB is best , when you are want to make a Stand ALone System using Microcontroller C, and Assembly language is the best, PC Based Visual Basic and Visual C++ is the Best,

So the point is all programming language have their own advantages

This question is similar to asking "Which mode of transportation is the best?"

The answer depends on a variety of conditions.

Each programming language has certain advantages and disadvantages. The purpose is what decides which programming language is the best.

There isn't a "best" language. No more than there is a "best" car, or a "best" song, or a "best" sandwich filling.

You need to pick one that you are comfortable programming in, and is suitable for the task at hand. As an example, I like PHP a lot, but you'd be a moron if you tried to write a 3D game in PHP. Similarly you'd be a fool to attempt to write an OS in Visual Basic.

Pointless question - next!

It depends on what you are programming and what you understand. I don't think there is one "best" programming language.
