Chuck E. Cheese is a great place for a party. If you would rather do something at home then rent one of those inflatable bouncers, hire a a few entertainers (Magicians, clowns, balloonists, etc) . This way, both the younger and older guests will be entertained. If you do invite older kids, be sure to have things that will keep them from being bored.

Firstly your daughter won't remember it or know what the fuss is about, so try for a big play ground or somewhere the older kids can play. Some where that has all the facilities you need built in would be good. Do you have a toddler park in your city or something similar? Some baby gums and indoor playgrounds cater for a larger range of ages too.

The more the merrier when inviting, Your child would not be able to really play birthday games so that can be left to the older ones. Just one piece of advice had at least three change of clothes pick out for you child.Get a single layer cake just for your baby to destroy, and make the cake chocolate it is sooo funny and you get great pics when you leave the cake on the high chair. Other than that just enjoy his/her day the rest will take care of itself.

No offense intended but at the age of 1, your daughter isn't going to realize it is her birthday or what the hoopla is all about. A party at that age is more for the parents than for her.

I realize my post isn't going to be very popular but perhaps you should rethink why you feel the need to have a big 1 year party when your daughter won't appreciate it...is it because your friends have done the same, or because you want to show off?

I've always heard that a 1st birthday party is for the parents, not the child. That being said, do what you like and have a blast, and take lots of pictures, cuz one day she'll love having them!

Don't do it - she won't remember it - you're only doing it for yourself. Have a family only party until she's old enough to invite HER friends, not yours. Chances are, your friends (especially those who don't have kids) would rather do ANYTHING than come to a one-year old's party - everyone knows it's not for her, and it's too faky - are you just in it for the presents or social status or what? Family only then HER friends, not yours - Have your friends over for YOUR birthparty!

One cool idea:
The US postal service offers picture stamps. You could get your daughter's picture put on the stamps that you use for the invitations. I would also invite older children. Why not?

1 yr old parties are more for the adults, the baby doesn't know what's going on, will probably sleep through it, and will not remember it by tomorrow.
