I have 2 table spoons marked with a crosskeys hallmark and a date letter C in a square. Makers mark: H. W. & Co. Also marked M ,Gothic script in a square lozenge, & in a rectangular lozenge and BP, plain script in an oval. I am trying to date them. I believe they are pre 1920's.

None. London assay marks show a crowned lions - or panther - head. Birmingham shows and anchor. Chester shows an armourial shield with what looks like three sheaves of corn. Exeter shows a triple turreted fort. Newcastle has three separate towers. Sheffield ; a crown and finally York has five passant lions in the shape of a george cross.

In order for an item to be British Sterling silver, there would need to be a passant lion included in the 'hallmark'.

Date letters are notoriously difficult to correctly identify without being seen. Because the style of the letter - upper/lower case etc etc are needed along with the exact shape of the tablet the letter is in. Similarly the "M" you mention as being gothic but whether it is upper or lower case.

BP in the mark would indicate to me - but I'm no expert - that they may be made from silver plate.

I'm curious to see how other view your question.
