This is what makes the differences between the religions. Catholics worship not only the Virgin Mary, but the Saints as well. I was brought up in a very strict Irish Catholic family and attended all twelve years of Catholic school. I worship Mary because she was chosen by God to conceive His child. Making her the Holiest and purest of women because the conception was immaculate. We Catholics believe that Mary led a pure sinless life. That she was the perfect woman, hence Gods decision for her to bare His child. Of course there is no other woman who has been or will ever be perfect, so Mary deserves our worship. She represents what God wants woman to be. Hope this answered your question.

I think worshipping anyone besides the Lord, even the mother of Jesus, is breaking the first commandment. "You shall not make for yourself an Idol." That's why I think Catholics have it wrong. That and when the Vatican cares more about fundraising and flaunting their wealth than helping people in need really gets me angry.

I also don't think this should have been under "movies."

Well, taking a completely different approach, there are two reasons why catholics honor (ie worship) mary. #1 is that Jesus always listened to his mother, so if you pray to her, he'll give you what you want if she intercedes on your behalf. #2 in any system with a god there is always a goddess. Just check out any preconquest society and they'll have a male and female diety because it provides balance. Therefore, Jesus is balanced out by Mary.

Catholics have never worshipped Mary. We hold her in high regard for being the Mother of God here on earth, but she cannot get you into heaven. As Catholics, we believe that Mary, as well as those that we call "saints," is in heaven with Jesus and, therefore, we ask her to pray FOR us. Praying to Mary or the saints is a heavily misunderstood aspect of the Catholic faith. We have days to honor not only Mary, but the other saints as well. In fact, if you can get your hands on a Catholic calendar, it will the the popular saints and their feast days.

If you'd like more information on the Catholic faith, I recommend a book called "Why Do Catholics Do That?" by Kevin Orlin Johnson. He takes the big hang-ups that people have about Catholics and explains them in an easy to understand way.

They worship her because they do no longer carry to the Commandments of God! there is between the Commandments that states haven't the different "gods" before me. there is yet another that states make no graven pictures! they have self belief that "mary" is a co-redemtrix alongside with Jesus. lower back this is going opposite to the word of God. They actually have self belief that "mary" consists of the nail marks of the go in her palms, as does Jesus as if she herself change into hung on that go. won't be able to locate that contained in the word of God both. convinced Mary change into the mummy of Christ, convinced she is termed blessed for that reason. even if the Bible purely teaches that God the daddy and His Son are to be worshiped and no one else. That church has many "pagan" teachings and consistently has. in addition they declare that they do no longer worship her or the different "saints" even if it truly is faux also. For worship also contains praying and carry one on a position of reverence. they do no longer even understand the word "worship" in the experience that they did they could see that there is extra to it then what they have been brought about have self belief. One very last element, the Bible teaches that when we are lifeless, all of us understand no longer something, we haven't any extra theory, no extra memory, we are able to provide no extra praise. It also states that when we die we go back to the floor and the breath of existence returns to the position it got here style, that is God. For it takes our body and the Breath of existence from God to make us a "living Soul" check out Gen for that one. If the Bible is genuine and that i have self belief that that is, then how ca we communicate with the lifeless? How can the lifeless pray to the daddy for us? Christ it seems that reported that no one comes unto the daddy except with the aid of Him. So this can leave "mary" and all their saints out of that element once and for all.

Catholics worship Mother Mary because she it's our belief that she is the sole person who can intercede between people and her son, Jesus. Catholics pray to Mary for protection and to God for forgiveness.

I'm very sorry, but I also don't know why people worship her. I see Jesus Christ as the #1 ''icon'' in the Christian religion and for me, other ''saints'' do not matter.

she is not worshiped...she is honored. she was the mother of Our Lord Jesus, and was chosen by God to be so. she was selfless, and endured a lot because she was unmarried when she was chosen. many mothers look to her as the ideal mother, and strive to be like her.

That's why I am Christian and not Catholic, they believe in the worship of her. I believe in the worship of only the one true God.

there's a lot that people have been conditioned to believe since they were kids, so they continue to believe in them. on the other hand, you can't help but want to worship somebody who was the person chosen by God to send the messiah to our earth.
