I like using in most my teaching strategies the use of goals and choice making. I would set up the scenario of a student obtaining a goal he is interested in. If the goal for example was to solve an algebra problem, he would have to understand what his end conclusion was going to look like or involve. The strategy would become asking him questions as a string of events leading him to wanting to "figure out" the answer. He should be helped to see figuring out this one question is now a high priority item in his life. He should become invested. You could do this by assisting him to be present. Such as suggesting that he think of being a student and solving problems that others without his intelligence might not get. Tune him into having a sharp pencil in his hand, the problem and scratch pad in front of him, asking the right process questions, and checking himself in a self-assessment to see if he is following the right path. He should be helped to understand this same process is applicable to other priorities such as choosing the right girl or university.

I can't give stratigies, but I have 2 children. I constantly hear how BORING everything school related has become.. If you want their attention... Put a little fun in it. You will be remembered always. I recall a Pre_algebra teacher using props ALWAYS when teaching, You know those are the only lessons I recall from school. She used a bunny rabbit when teaching decimals bouncing back and forth, she'd use a number of things and to this day, it comes to mind anytime i'm using something related or if i get stuck. Funny how things stick in your mind isn't it.
