I do not know where this name Bubba originates from. But I am from Kentucky. The city, not the mountain part. My family is quite educated. I have an older brother whose name is actually Rodney but for some reason we have always just called him Bubba. But only within the family. Everyone else calls him Rod. Their are rednecks everywhere. Ky. just gets a bad rap for some reason.

I have a friend that has a older boy and a baby girl. She calls her oldest son bubba as a nickname for brother. Maybe its a nickname for brother, not sure where it came from though.

well its from the south....i live in alabama and here we call our son bubba (he has 2 sisters, sissy) it is a southern thang i guess you would say. it doesnt mean retarted or anything just a lil nick name
