The hardest problem in constructing roofs is the bending moments. The domes form reduces these moments to minimum and transforms the loads to compression forses.
You can use domes for any structure, as long as the architect can use it in an affordable manner...

their strong. uhm, not sure what else besides being stylish. they are'nt the best for use of space though.
