I just started taking Lexapro about a month and a half ago. I started having spotting before my period and I feel tired all the time. I might be pregnant and I'm not sure if I should immediatley stop taking my Lexapro. My period should be coming this week so I might wait to see if my period comes......but in the meantime should I worry about if the Lexapro will hurt the baby if I am infact preggers?

I think people need to be careful dispensing this advice. Lexapro has NOT been shown to cause problems with pregnancy or babies, but it is a new drug, and has not been well-studied. You are best off talking with a psychiatrist who specializes in pregnancy OR your OB-GYN that is understanding about mental health problems. Most professionals work from the risk-benefit model. If there is possibility of relapse or illness during your pregnancy, they will likely recommend you stay on your medicine. You have a say in this. I wish you the best. (I have seen hundreds of women have healthy babies on SSRIs.)

Don't stop taking it!

There are really nasty side effects from stopping cold turkey. I know ... they happened to me. You could get extremely tired and get what people call "brain zaps". Seriously, Google Lexapro and brain zaps. Nearly everyone who stops cold gets them. I don't know how to explain the feeling.

You always ALWAYS have to taper off an SSRI, like Lexapro. Go to the doctor for a blood test and if you are pregnant, they will tell you how to wean yourself off the medicine by reducing the amount a little every week. Yes, just a little every week. It takes a long time or you'll get side effects like the brain zaps.

SSRI antidepressants may cause serious or life-threatening lung problems in newborn babies whose mothers take the medication during pregnancy. However, you may have a relapse of depression if you stop taking your antidepressant during pregnancy. If you are planning a pregnancy, or if you become pregnant while taking Lexapro, do not stop taking the medication without first talking to your doctor.

when you got the prescription filled, did you look at the sheet of information that came with it indicating WHAT the side effects are/were? Or did you ASK your DOCTOR what the side effects were?? Key thing into taking something new or doing something new....The "Cause and Effect" Factor...."IF" you do something what's the outcome ? and "IF" you take something what's the outcome. Questions that you not only should ask yourself but your doctor if you're concerned with something medically, and has to do with your body. As far as being pregnant, be more specific, did you have unprotected sex in the time you've been taking the medication? If so, don't you think that asking the question "Do you think i might be pregnant?" should be asked of perfect strangers or your OBGYN? And if you are in fact pregnant (diagnosed by a doctor) don't you think you should ask HIM/HER if it's okay to continue with the medication or take something that won't effect the baby?

I was taking Lovan right up until I found out I was pregnant at 7weeks. Until you know for sure whether you are infact pregnant dont stop taking it as its not wise to suddenly stop this kind of medication. I'm sure you'll be right, I was.
