I get the same as "Mr.Bill".

Another way to work it out is: 2 Dans could do it in 3 hours,
2 Beas could do it in 4 hours.
so, 1 Dan + 1 Bea can do it in half of each.
i.e. 1 Dan (1&1/2 hours) + 1 Bea (2 hours) = 3 &1/2 hours.

Let's say each one cleans the garage alone. The average time they need is 7 hours (8 + 6 = 14 / 2 = 7).
Now, if they clean it together, they will only need half the time one of them would need to do it alone, hence 7 / 3 = 3.5 hours.

8+6=14 total hours for finished job separately
14 (hours) divided by 2 (people)= 7 hours
can be done in 7 hours with both people working

8 + 6 = 14
14 man hours in total
divide by 2
7 hours is the answer if one person was to do the job. Since there are two of them, 3.5 hours.
