See a lawyer.

Should not take long, but depends on the parties. If they neat pick then it can have more hearing, hearing may take 3 minutes but time for discovery and court date can make it go on for ever and ever, this happens when one or both people are trying to harass the other or each other, some time a rogue lawyer may instigate it to get fees but I doubt it.

Six years is a long time, the best I had known was 3 years required in some community. This is demanded by community standards, and court requires it, but in your case the clock may not have started yet.

Get a lawyer now.

Ask him if it will help to move to different province and file. In USA it is City of Reno, in Nevada State. Instant divorces are granted and same judge may marry you on the spot to another person.
People do go to Monti Carlos in Europe..... there are few other places in the world like this, lawyer should know the ones near you.

I was told that people do change religion to ease this burden.

If both of you together file a petition for divorce on mutual consent it will take 1 months time at the most. If you file a divorce petition all by yourself it will take very long. If you are unemployed then alimony will be bare minimum. If you have property then you have to pay through your nose. You can again file a petition for divorce on mutual consent now to save time and expenses.

Divorce in India takes very much time. If she is separated from you for more than two years, and you can show evidences to the court of law and when it satisfied with your answer, it will sanction divorce. Money settlement is at the discretion of the hon'ble court.
