The general benchmark is 40 for the Premiership, though in 2003 West Ham United were relegated with 42 points. West Bromwich Albion stayed up with 34 points in 2005, which was the least number of points achieved by a team not relegated from the Premiership.

Not sure about the Championship though.

For the prem its normally 40. A good indication is whoever is bottom of the league on xmas day. I think only one team has survived relegation afer being bottom at xmas. Alternatively just turn the league upside down then man utd, chelsea, and arsenal are relegated.

40 used to be a good guide in the premiership but lately that seems to not be enough so its hard to say at the moment 45-50 should keep you up by the skin of your teeth

I think 41 points will be enough this season in the premiership.

4 points because the highest relegation score is 3

It depends on how well or how bad other teams are doing. I don't know enough to tell you what it has been in the past. All I know is that a team just has to have more points than the bottom 3 teams.

Usually 40 is the benchmark number. It is not a guarantee but statistics show that you can survive with this point total or higher.

40 - 45 but that don't gurantee you safety though! It really depends on how other teams are perfoming!
