Not backwards...just raised in a simplistic culture with different norms and morals, than you are used to. Culture shock to some and a way of life to others.

You know what? I actually think the term "backwards" and "good ole boys" are interchangable here.

I'm actually from Kentucky & we too are sometimes referred to with meanings such as you imply.

Only in the south will you find people such as the good people you call by less than proper terms. We will offer our help to anyone and will stop to help even a stranger. Generally if you are sitting on the side of the road in the south - shortly someone will offer assitance.

We still take food to family of deceased people to ease their trauma - and remove their need to carry on immediately - to allow them time to grieve.

We have been describled with words that imply less educated, again not the case. We have learned to make our living by the sweat of our brows many times, and work our fields, and coal mine etc - but that doesn't lessen our knowledge & ability.

We are a strong people - and we are a supporting people. You will not find a greater group anywhere.

It's not that they're backwards; it's that people in the Southern part of the United States take an easier approach towards life. Believe me Southerners are not backwards.
