do you think shops should open on boxing day?
i personally think if people cant buy for the one day it closed (xmas day), then they are stupid, they should make sure they have enough bread, butter, essentials etc, but they dont, when i worked last year we had all the tills open and were very busy, why cant people stock up for two days? is it really that hard
i dont think any shop should be allowed to open
and bless the people who have to work (hospitals etc), they are the kindest people in the world, i just mean consumer goods before anyone starts abusing me :)

Idont think shops should be open boxing day, it's not an emergency service so I think the retail staff should at least have christmas day and boxing day off.

Boxing day has only been an official holiday in the last hundred years or so in Britain and dominions. Before that everybody worked normally. In most other countries it is an ordinary workday as it has no religious significance. It used to be the day that was given to servants who had worked on Christmas day to go and visit their families, and people who brought you service, such as coal man or dustman, to come round with a box in which you slipped a few coins.Since then it has become a sports day.
However since it IS a holiday here, there is no reason why shops should be open, which does not mean that the shop employees are not working. Who do you think prepares the shops for the mad scramble of the sales that start on the 27th?
It is all about greed and consumerism really, and cashing in on the fact that people are bored after Christmas day. Surely there are better ways to use holiday time than shopping especially when one has just gone through the great Christmas buying spree.

I totally agree with you, lots of families don't spend enough time together as it is these days, when one of them has to work over Christmas that must be very hard, surely people can wait for one extra day to hit the shops again.

People don't need to shop on Boxing Day! It's just pure greed and consumerism! The shops would never close though because they know how peoples' minds work and how much money they'll rake in!

I think it should be a personal choice. Boxing Day is traditionally part of of Christmas celebrations, so I think that Christians should have the right to observe it, should they wish. However, I don't think that everything should be closed by law: many of us aren't Christians and would like to carry on with life as normal :o)
It should work like Eid - everyone should have the right to observe it as part of their religion, but surely it shouldn't be obligatory?

Dont worry.. I cant see the local Pakis* closing with them being Muslims .. what would we do without them .for our Batteries - Bread Milk & ciggies.. & dont forget the Plonko... I think stores like Asda, Tesco etc..should close & allow staff to spend time with their families.
*Please note Pakis is a term used in Glasgow for the Pakistani corner shop..and is not ment as a Racist term.
