I am using yahoo page builders, but unknowingly named my main page index.html. Through trial and error, i have learned that if I change the name, i will loose any links i have created with other sites. (it says your page is not found) or something like that.

Page builders also states you have to have an index.html page, but i dont want to name my "home page" index...
Please help..what do I do?

Don't change the name of your home page. First of all, you don't have to provide anyone with "index.html" when you share the URL of your website. If your web page is http://foo.com/index.html you can just say http://foo.com

Now - if for some reason you insist that it has to be so (why I don't know), you can use a meta refresh tag, and direct to another page from your index.html page. How to add meta tags is below.

However, you should be aware that search engines will lower the rank of your index.html page if it is nothing more than a redirect page. I strongly advise against the course of action you are proposing. Leave it as index.html - as I say, you can omit that part of the link and it works anyway.

The first page anyone sees when visiting your site will be (depending on the configuration of the server) index.html, index.php or home.html.

As the configuration cannot be guaranteed and search engines may prefer .html I would stick with index.html.

Why do you want to change this ?
You say you don't want your main page to be called this, well you could save your main page as main.html BUT you will still need an index.html with at least a redirect in it OR a link to your main.html page otherwise NO ONE will be able to vist it your site unless they KNOW the URL. http:my.domain.com/thisismymainpage.html
If people have links to your index.html page then these links will point to your new index.html page.
If you remove the index.html all together then the links will be dead and will eventually be removed.

#1, you have to name your first page either .index.html, index.htm, or default.htm/default.html, or default.asp/index.asp (programming example).

There is no way around that. If other sites are link to you, they should be referred to your base url like: http://www.yourdomain.com and it should not be linked to http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html.

The server looks for either index or default as your first page. If you change the name of that page to something else and your server doesn't allow custom default name change, then your first page will not be removed. If you have other sites linked to you, then leave that page alone. You can always add another page which is the same as the index, but just change the name. I wouldn't advise it though because you'll have to update each page.

index.html is the most common name for the default page of a domain. If you change this name to homepage.html or something, browsers will not know where to look for your web page. The simplest solution is leave it as it is - if you look carefully you'll find that almost all sites on the net use this system.

detect a private spot on the sea coast. you have dinner then if there's a pier that extends into the water, detect a dismal spot below it. if there's no longer, then attempt to locate some rocks to cover at the back of. in case you p.c. to be extra civilized, then lease a room at a 5 superstar motel for a evening, mild some candles, and get into your evening gown!!!!!!!!!!
