Start at the top left corner...Typically this is where your power feed comes in, if it is in ladder form. Positive voltage is the left vertical line, the right side is the neutral line. Every thing in between is a device or a contact on a device. ( relay, switch, etc.) You should go to the library and check out some books on simple circuitry for a more definitive answer.
