G'day. My mum is having the same problem as you, on a rather large scale unfortunately.
Being menopausal means your hormones are completely out of whack, so getting that seen to is a good start. People underestimate the effect hormones have on our bodies, whatever the problem. Mine are currently raging out of control, so I know exactly how much of an effect they can have!
Find yourself a good natural therapist, like a naturopath or a kinesiologist or a homeopath. They'll help identify exactly what your problem is, and then provide a safe, effective treatment for it.

As we ladies mature, the metabolism slows. Weight gain just prior to and during menopause is one of the complaints. There is no magic cure-sigh!. Just the usual, cut back on the calories and increase the exercise. Take a good multivitamin/mineral supplement to offset what you can't get from the diet, plus a calcium supplement. Yogurt is a good source of that, plus there is evidence that calcium is associated with easier weight loss. Probably not enough to offset a slice of good chocolate cake, but every little bit helps. It's either that, or resign yourself to the "mature matronly figure". Girdles are just too ugly to consider.

Welcome to the menopausal state! Weight gain around the waist is one of the most common symptoms. Here's what you can do. First of all, watch what you eat. Cut back on fats. You don't have to eliminate them completely, but just think about what you're eating and make smart choices. Secondly, try to get at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise per day. It can be from walking, stair climbing, whatever, just make sure you get it somehow. No excuses! Peace and good luck!

Do your grocery shopping with a list and a moment limit; that way, you're not as likely to stray into the highly processed foods section.

Decaf coffee is a great low-calorie fluid when you're having cravings (and an excellent source of antioxidants).

Use a vegetable bean dip including hummus instead of ranch dressing or perhaps a fatty cream-based dip.
