"The stick grenade is easily held and thrown. It's shape also prevents rolling on the ground, a distinct advantage on sloped terrain. It also can be easily bundled together with other stick grenades making a larger weapon. On the negative side, it is bulky and cannot be thrown as far as an "egg" shaped hand grenade."

The throwing distance mostly depends on the skill of the thrower, so that was not considered a limiting factor. Also round shaped Grenades were used bu Germans in WW2, but the stick shape was far more produced (and used).

my opinion is that ,the shape (stick) would ve caused much damage because the range was big. The germans were experimenting on weapons those days . but later ,the russians made the pineapple shaped granade because that shape provided much coverage than the stick granade. the shape of the claymore bomb is a developed version of the stick bomb .

Not too sure why they used that design; however, the "potato masher" created a larger explosion compared to the typical "pineapple" grenade. The Japanese and Chinese used a variation of the German Stielhandgranate as well.

perhaps because of its shape ,you were able to hold and fling ,like a throwing/hurling action ,and the weight being at one end caused it to go that much further in direction, Just a guess, mind.

The weight on one end of the stick gave it more momentum, plus, you could smack people in the head with the butt handle of the nade.
