Just because you have a blue and painful toe doenst mean at all you have a fracture,it could be just badly bruised. To find out if you have a fracture or torn the ligaments you need a x-ray,this will show up any fractures if you have any.In the mean time strap the toe to the next toe to restrict the movement, apply a cold compress but not directly on the skin, keep the foot elevated as high as possible, and rest try not to put no weight on that toe, either walk on your heel or completly no weight.Borrow some crutches from some one if they have any.But i would advise you to go and see either your gp or up your local hospital, they will examine the toe then send you for a x-ray and treat you with the injuries they find. These days we dont put toes in a plaster cast, there either strapped to the other toe or left.Toe fractures can take a while to heal thou, thats if they heal in the right position too.Well good luck and keep me posted or if you need further advice.

This is a message from my little toe, to your little toe:-
" Oh ! you poor little toe, I can see that your nic-naks has been very careless
with you, sometimes they just don`t care do they? They drop things on us, they knock us against things and then have the nerve to complain if they are inconvenienced. It sounds to me as though you really are broken, not only are you in exquisite pain and looking most un-attractive, but there is nothing that can be done for you. It was just the same with me, they just wrapped a bandage around me and said that I was to be rested, and they gave her some pain-killers which helped me not hurt so much, Do you know it was about a month before I felt alright again, and something else,I am now deformed ! Yes, she should have put a little wooden splint on me, something like an ice-lolly stick would have been great, just taped to me, and I would have mended straight, instead I am now decidedly crooked. You tell nic-naks look after you properly because toes are very important. Get well soon!"

The following assumes that you've sustained an injury capable of breaking a toe.

An X-Ray will determine if the toe is broken or not. However, since you aren't going to do anything different, there's little point in having it done.
Try R.I.C.E
Rest - rest your foot
Ice - putting ice on will ease the pain and reduce the swelling
Compression - if you want to reduce swelling
Elevation - put your foot on a cushion or up on the chair to help the swelling go down.

If it's broken, RICE and painkillers.
If it's not, just badly bruised, it's still RICE and painkillers.

You probably have broken it but there is nothing much that can be done....saying that... I broke my toe years ago and my Dad said don't bother going to the doctor or hospital because they can't do anything...right and wrong...years later I still suffer with pains in my old broken toe especially in the cold and my GP said had I gone to see someone at the time they would have made sure it set straight just by putting a plaster or bandage around it and the next toe and holding it in place....best to see someone.

Best way is to go see a doctor, its hard to tell. Not being able to move the toe doesn't always mean it is broken, sometimes if its just very badly bruised and swollen you can't move it for a while. I think the worst it can be is fractured.

yes I have broken my little toe. Yes it hurts and you can go to the doctor but their isnt much they can even do. They will tell you to splint to with your other toe. They will also give you pain killers if you want.

Wait until it gets better and you go and bend your toes and that one only moves if you use the one next to it to help.

Sorry to say that is sound like you broke it. there is nothing they can do for a broken toe. you can put ice on it to stop the swallowing. Some Doctor will give you pain meds but there is nothing you can really do.. I know how painful it is been there done that.. How you feel better soon

it should go a bluey, black colour if it is bruised.
To be honest tho not much point going to the doctor as they cant realloy do anything with a broken toe. Just take painkillers and try to rest it as much as possible

If you can't move it without being in absolute agony, you've probably broken it! You could go to the hosp to get an x-ray and you may need your foot in plaster! Go and get it checked out. The Doctor can also prescribe you some strong pain killers. Sounds nasty! Get those pain killers down you!
